Sunday is the last day of the scheduled events for SL9B and, as the event organisers, stage managers and performers wearily pack away their tents and look forward to a well-earned shower and the cleaning crews move in to clear away the accumulated debris from the stages and auditoriums, there will be a sense of a final curtain, slowly falling, to bring to a close the 9th birthday celebrations… but wait a moment, what’s that? There’s still people who haven’t been along to take a look at this amazing event?
It’s true – even after a week of festivities, there are still those who haven’t made it along to the celebration sims… and time is running out. With just 3 days remaining until the exhibits close, time really is running short and once they’re gone, they’re gone!
i know we’re all busy and have full schedules, but this is something really worth making time for. Maybe you’ve not been impressed with previous birthday celebrations and that’s why you’ve stayed away… if that’s the case, then you shouldn’t: remember this year the Lindens had nothing to do with it – everything has been organised by and has come out of the sl community, and it’s all been quite remarkable. 20 Sims of the brightest and best that sl can offer, and all of it came from us!
i won’t force you to go – i’m not going to beat you with a stick and insist – it’s up to you, but if you miss out, it’s your loss!
There is one thing that i will continue to plug shamelessly though, and that’s my own contribution to the wider community celebration – The SL9B Story. Participation has been, shall we say, ‘slow’ – and it would be lovely to see a sudden burst of activity in the remaining 3 days that the book remains open, otherwise it’s going to be a very short story indeed!
A few people have had technical problems at the inworld site: “I can’t see the page… it’s blank!” If you’re having this issue, there are several possible reasons:
- Are you using a V1 viewer that doesn’t support media on a prim? – If so, you’ll have to add your contributions via the website instead;
- If you’re using a V2/3 viewer, have you enabled MOAP? – go to preferences and graphics and ensure that ‘show media on other avatars’, (or whatever option your viewer of choice provides), is checked;
- Check that you’ve enabled media playback, (most viewers incorporate it into the volume sliders);
- Make sure that you have the most up-to-date standalone version of Flash installed.
For a more comprehensive explanation of the above steps, check out this thread.
If you get stuck, please post your contribution on the website – please don’t send me a notecard or an e-mail – by the time i get around to them the chances are that the story will have moved on and i won’t be able to shoe-horn them in!
To those who have contributed so far, a great big thank you – it’s working better than i ever expected and it’s lovely seeing sl folk collaborating creatively to make something unique – keep up the good work and let’s see where this journey takes us!
Coming back to SL9B itself, i’ve concentrated so far on the main exhibits at the celebration Sims, so before it all ends, i’m planning on making some flying visits to some of the community projects that are happening around the Grid… so still plenty to see, explore and enjoy – i hope you’ll join me in supporting the amazing talent that makes our world such a special place to be.
[Sorry for the lack of pictures today – i’ve had 2 power outages in rapid succession, which have successfully corrupted most of my SL9B images. Guess when my last backup was… yep, 7 days ago. Ah well… attempting recovery now, let’s see what happens.]
