In the beginning…

Guess who’s a little bit excited… c’est moi!

If you had access to a time machine and could go back to any point in the past, what would be your choice? I can think of many moments in time that I’d love to both revisit or see for myself at first hand – all the usual suspects, of course.

One moment that I’ve always regretted that I wasn’t around for, some 11 years ago, was the launch of Second Life – to have been a part of the action during those Beta Grid days when Philip walked the virtual earth and everything was new, exciting and not a little bit weird and wonderful, would have been awesome; but sadly it was not to be, and those days are gone forever. 😦

day1Such opportunities rarely come along.

But… virtual miracles do occasionally happen.

Picture a brand new virtual world, a new adventure, a potential game-changer, a world so new that you can count the avatars inworld on your fingers,  a world the brainchild of the same guy who gave us Second Life… and now, picture little me, stood in the middle of it!

Yep, I don’t need a time machine because today an unexpected and rather thrilling email dropped into my inbox – an invitation to become an alpha resident in High Fidelity!

I’m so excited!

Yes, it’s rough, ready and unfinished, it’s not pretty either, but that’s what you expect of an alpha version, and I’m not complaining – after all, it’s not every day you get to be a pioneer in a new virtual world!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to play!

Me, too!!! Although I don’t know if this is really a “resident” thing. Looks more like a developer tool, but even that’s pretty exciting. Cool to have your own domain to work up. Tell me that’s not a screenshot of HiFi because my Avi is a droid!

    • Cool… we may even bump into each other inworld!

The droid thing had me going for a bit too – left click on the avatar and you’ll get an option to go to the marketplace, where you can swap metal Mickey for something a bit more curvy, although the offerings there do completely redefine having a bad hair day!

I agree that it isn’t your average resident’s cup of tea just yet, and my Java skills are certainly not up to scripting anything worth shouting about, but I’m very tempted to have a bash at building. I have a deep and compelling need to build a beanstalk – perhaps that will be my enduring contribution to virtual world history!

Good to know and another reason I need to RTFM before continuing. I also saw something about a program–some else to download!–called mixamo ( that allows you to create your own 3D character and it’s downloadable. (Interesting what we focus on in looking at docs, innit?) It is exciting and may finally be something that drags me away from SL, although I have to say that Medici U has been incredible.

I’m using a familiar user name, so who knows if we do run into each other. It is history in the making. On that you are absolutely correct.

What do you say?
