Tricks of the Light

Tricks of the Light

Second Life photography is easy… you find a shot you like and click. Decent Second Life photography is quite a different matter.

Our eyes play tricks on us: That which appears 3-dimensional, with depth and interest when we’re inworld can be terribly flat, uninteresting and disappointing once rendered as a two-dimensional image. If we wish to capture the essence of that which appeals to us, we have to work that much harder to convey it in image form.

For the Second Life photographer, this means making the most of lighting, perspective, colour and atmosphere. All of the images that follow rely entirely on these elements for their visual impact – the only post processing i’ve allowed myself is some judicious cropping and the occasional tweak to vibrance and saturation, all other effects were created inworld, using windlight and the native settings in Phoenix. i hope you like them.

– oooOOOooo –

The night sky has a beauty all its own… the most everyday objects, silhouetted against the gibbous moon take on an air of mystique and intrigue, add an unfamiliar prop and you have the makings of a grand story indeed…

…however, things are not always as they seem: The same scene from the perspective of the setting sun takes on a completely new meaning; the mystery deepens…

Heads in the clouds, we can miss so much; consider the fishes and how the world might be from the pond at our feet…

… from beneath the waters to high in the sky; fireworks take on a whole new beauty when you share their domain…

We may paint the sky with colourful sparks and stars but nature has its own palette, and there’s something quite special about a rainbow after dark…

…and as the raindrops fall, we stand and gaze…

…until, once more, the sun bathes us in its warmth and light…

…and we sit and contemplate the good things of life, as dusk paints an evening scene…

…and another day comes to a close…

A precious moment…

…a magical dream…

…a fantasy…

…a fairytale…

…each and every one has their time and their place…

…in this world where romance still holds sway…#

…and dreams can still come true…

A place where we may choose to live in a world of fantasy…

…and even reality is better than the real thing!
